About Eliane

My name is Eliane, and I live in a typical small French town located only one hour from Toulouse airport and 10 minutes from Carcassonne. French is my mother tongue, and I am also fluent in English.

In addition to being a certified FLE teacher, I am a legal advisor. Before becoming a French immersion teacher, I worked in a law firm. This experience makes me familiar with the professional world as well.

I am passionate about human connections. I enjoy interacting with people and discussing French culture and history. Painting and cooking are also part of my daily life. For several years now, I have been running my immersion program and I would not change it for anything in the world. Teaching brings me a lot of joy, and many of my students become very good friends over time.

Meet the Family in Carcassonne

I live with my husband Benjamin and our daughters, Elena and Lili-Anne. You will meet them, although you may not see them often as Elena goes to school and Lili goes to the nanny. We also share our home with our dog Okami, who is very friendly and sweet. Students usually love him.

Benjamin, your co-teacher

Benjamin is also a French teacher for English speakers and works with me. You will often see him at breakfast, during lunch, or on outings and he may assist during lessons. Although he is fluent in English, he always takes the time to speak French with students. He is patient and helps learners find the right words when needed. His attentive nature makes him a great support for improving pronunciation and understanding.

As you may have understood, this is truly a small family business. We are here to help you learn, practice, and improve your French in a warm and authentic environment.

Why Choose Us?

We welcome you to our home in Pezens, a charming village just a few minutes from the medieval city of Carcassonne. You will stay on the ground floor of our house, entirely dedicated to students, with independent access. This layout allows you to enjoy privacy while still being part of family life.

This French immersion in Carcassonne is about entering our world for a week or more and living French from morning to evening. You will share daily moments, conversations, laughter, and sometimes debates. Come and experience a true French immersion near Carcassonne, focused on language, culture, and human connection. Our motto says it all: “faites comme chez vous” – our home is your home.

Practical Info About Your French Immersion Homestay near Carcassone

Pezens is only at one our drive from Toulouse airport. This makes our French immersion in Carcassonne easily accessible from major cities in the South of France. And I can arrange to have you pick up if needed. If you take the train, I recommend Carcassonne which is very close to Pezens and I will be at the station waiting for you.

Since in our village you can find everything you need (a grocery store, a pizzeria, a restaurant, a pharmacy, a butcher, a bakery) you don’t need to rent a car although we recommend you do if you wish to be more independent and enjoy all there is to do in this beautiful region of France.

Should you not rent a car, I’ll be happy to drive you around, but I will have to ask for a gas fee. And know that we provide you with bicycles, if you want to venture into the surrounding villages and towns. Pick up at Toulouse airport can also be arranged. Of course, if you book our second option you will not need a car, because we take care of everything.

There is good Wifi and cell reception throughout the house.

You are welcome to smoke regular cigarettes outside should you wish to, but please don’t smoke inside.

I love to cook and I cook all sorts of food: typical French cuisine of course, but also gourmet ethnic food. I enjoy picking up fresh produce at the farm in season. With your guidance, I will also be happy to adapt my cooking to your specific diet: I’m always eager to learn new recipes.

Because we have a dog, unfortunately, we cannot accept your pet.

2. The duration of your desired immersion stay and whether you are flexible about the immersion dates

Option 2

Wow!! Firstly, don’t think twice about booking an immersion with Eliane – just do it!!

My daughter, Phoebe, and I spent a fantastic week of immersion with Eliane, her husband Benjamin, and their two gorgeous little girls. I had primarily organised the trip to help Phoebe with her senior school studies in French, whilst I had only just started my French studies 2 months before we came.

French practice

Eliane is an outstanding teacher!!! She expertly tailored then delivered our daily lessons (on her gorgeous terrace) with our requested grammar work as well as conversational practice. She also provided us with suitable homework to help us consolidate our daily learning. Despite our different levels of French Eliane seamlessly conducted our daily lessons to help both Phoebe and myself. Phoebe now has a confidence of the French tenses that she never had before, as do I! – thank you Eliane!!

Accommodation

Our accommodation was both very private (the whole bottom floor of the house) and extremely comfortable. Phoebe and I had our own rooms that were lovely and cool in this crazy summer heat, and beautifully appointed. The gorgeous pool and sun loungers in the back garden were a fabulous place to take our breaks or chill out time.

Outings

All meals were delicious and plentiful. Eliane is an excellent cook! We got to try some very tasty French specialities that we had never had before which was great! Our daily outings with either Eliane or Benjamin to places like the Carcassone Castle, the local winery and Toulouse were all fantastic. Eliane and Benjamin are expert, knowledgeable guides and their connections with the locals made our visits extra special. During our excursions with Benjamin he would always encourage us to practice our conversational skills using whatever tense we had been working with Eliane that morning – super helpful!

Phoebe and I have had the most amazing week with Eliane and Benjamin. They have made us feel so welcome and so relaxed. I cannot express just how valuable this immersion experience has been for both Phoebe and myself and it was absolutely worth coming from the other side of the world to do it. We have had an entire week of very lively, humorous conversations that we feel like we have made some wonderful new friends and neither of us want to leave!…. We will be back!!

The teaching

What strikes you immediately is that both Eliane and Benjamin are natural communicators – clear, engaging, and people you actually enjoy talking with. That matters more than it might sound: you spend a lot of time in conversation with them, and the fact that you want to keeps the energy up throughout the day. Eliane has been running this programme for eight years, and it shows. She has a quiet skill for identifying grammar weaknesses and developing vocabulary without it ever feeling like a classroom exercise. Yet she still brings the enthusiasm of someone who evidently loves what she does. So does Benjamin.

The food

Anyone weighing up the cost should factor in what’s on the plate. The meals are genuinely excellent – the kind of thing you’d be delighted to find in a good bistro, but fresh and healthy. Eliane clearly takes as much care over the cooking as the lessons.

The accommodation

The downstairs apartment is comfortable and well set up. Having several rooms and proper places to sit and read or relax made a real difference – it felt like actually staying somewhere rather than just having a bed. A hotel room, however pleasant, doesn’t give you that.

An afternoon with Benjamin

A particular highlight was an afternoon at a local vinaigrerie – an artisanal vinegar producer. The guide was entertaining and spoke clear, natural French at an accessible pace, and Benjamin made full use of everything we saw to keep the conversation going. The kind of experience a classroom simply can’t replicate.

Advice

If you’re undecided, just go! If you’ve decided to go: think carefully beforehand about what you want to focus on, then discuss it with Eliane and build a plan together. I was perhaps a little too relaxed in my preparation, but as I had an excellent week I wouldn’t change very much, just a bit more personal reflection before arriving. The programme is flexible enough to meet you where you are; you’ll get even more from it if you arrive with clear goals.

Option 2

I first studied French at school over 30 years ago, and ever since then it has been a personal challenge of mine to prove to myself that I can really speak French. Like many people, I accumulated bits of grammar and vocabulary over the years through occasional classes, but I never quite managed to make the leap from learning French to actually speaking it with confidence.

What Eliane and Benjamin helped me realise is that I knew far more French than I thought, while also helping me identify the areas where I still need to improve. Most of all, I needed the confidence, encouragement and immersion to start using the language. This course was exactly what I was looking for.(…)

French lessons

From the very first day, Eliane and I spent our mornings talking in French. There were no grammar drills, written exercises or textbooks; just natural conversation on a wide range of topics. I found myself listening to and speaking French for most of the day, which is something I had never experienced before. Of course, this was exactly the kind of experience I had hoped for, but what impressed me most was how carefully Eliane tailors the course to each person’s needs and goals.

French practice

The experience was about much more than language lessons. Eliane works alongside her husband, Benjamin, who took me on afternoon visits and outings where I was able to continue practising French in real-life situations. Together, they create a truly immersive environment that combines language learning with cultural experience. By the end of the week, I was speaking and listening to French far more naturally than I ever had before.

Each morning began with a relaxed breakfast conversation in French. Eliane and Benjamin have a remarkable ability to adapt their language to your level, speaking clearly and slowly when needed, patiently repeating things, helping with vocabulary when words escape you, and gently correcting mistakes along the way. This allowed me to communicate with confidence while continuously improving my French.

My hosts

What made the week especially memorable was not only Eliane and Benjamin’s skill as teachers, but also their warmth and hospitality. They are genuinely lovely people, and we quickly discovered many shared interests. At times, I forgot they were my teachers and felt more as though I was spending time with friends I had known for years.

I left with noticeably improved confidence in speaking French, a clearer understanding of my level, and renewed enthusiasm for continuing my learning. I am now preparing to start a B1 course at the Institut Français in the autumn, something I might not have felt ready for before this experience.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this course to anyone who wants to move beyond studying French and start actually living and using the language. It exceeded my expectations in every way. I hope to be back soon!
