About Eliane

My name is Eliane, and I live in a typical small French town located only one hour from Toulouse airport and 10 minutes from Carcassonne. French is my mother tongue, and I am also fluent in English.

In addition to being a certified FLE teacher, I am a legal advisor. Before becoming a French immersion teacher, I worked in a law firm. This experience makes me familiar with the professional world as well.

I am passionate about human connections. I enjoy interacting with people and discussing French culture and history. Painting and cooking are also part of my daily life. For several years now, I have been running my immersion program and I would not change it for anything in the world. Teaching brings me a lot of joy, and many of my students become very good friends over time.

Meet the Family in Carcassonne

I live with my husband Benjamin and our daughters, Elena and Lili-Anne. You will meet them, although you may not see them often as Elena goes to school and Lili goes to the nanny. We also share our home with our dog Okami, who is very friendly and sweet. Students usually love him.

Benjamin, your co-teacher

Benjamin is also a French teacher for English speakers and works with me. You will often see him at breakfast, during lunch, or on outings and he may assist during lessons. Although he is fluent in English, he always takes the time to speak French with students. He is patient and helps learners find the right words when needed. His attentive nature makes him a great support for improving pronunciation and understanding.

As you may have understood, this is truly a small family business. We are here to help you learn, practice, and improve your French in a warm and authentic environment.

Why Choose Us?

We welcome you to our home in Pezens, a charming village just a few minutes from the medieval city of Carcassonne. You will stay on the ground floor of our house, entirely dedicated to students, with independent access. This layout allows you to enjoy privacy while still being part of family life.

This French immersion in Carcassonne is about entering our world for a week or more and living French from morning to evening. You will share daily moments, conversations, laughter, and sometimes debates. Come and experience a true French immersion near Carcassonne, focused on language, culture, and human connection. Our motto says it all: “faites comme chez vous” – our home is your home.

Practical Info About Your French Immersion Homestay near Carcassone

Pezens is only at one our drive from Toulouse airport. This makes our French immersion in Carcassonne easily accessible from major cities in the South of France. And I can arrange to have you pick up if needed. If you take the train, I recommend Carcassonne which is very close to Pezens and I will be at the station waiting for you.

Since in our village you can find everything you need (a grocery store, a pizzeria, a restaurant, a pharmacy, a butcher, a bakery) you don’t need to rent a car although we recommend you do if you wish to be more independent and enjoy all there is to do in this beautiful region of France.

Should you not rent a car, I’ll be happy to drive you around, but I will have to ask for a gas fee. And know that we provide you with bicycles, if you want to venture into the surrounding villages and towns. Pick up at Toulouse airport can also be arranged. Of course, if you book our second option you will not need a car, because we take care of everything.

There is good Wifi and cell reception throughout the house.

You are welcome to smoke regular cigarettes outside should you wish to, but please don’t smoke inside.

I love to cook and I cook all sorts of food: typical French cuisine of course, but also gourmet ethnic food. I enjoy picking up fresh produce at the farm in season. With your guidance, I will also be happy to adapt my cooking to your specific diet: I’m always eager to learn new recipes.

Because we have a dog, unfortunately, we cannot accept your pet.

Contact Eliane

Please write a detailed message for the teacher including:
1. Whether you’ll be traveling by yourself or with friends/family (and if applicable the number of people just staying at the teacher or also taking classes and a bit more about them)
2. The duration of your desired immersion stay and whether you are flexible about the immersion dates
3. A few details about yourself: your hobbies, your French learning goal, the kind of immersion you’d like (little/lots of homework, outdoor or more indoor activities), any food allergies or other problems you may have. The teachers will be opening their own home to you and although they’ll ask you more questions if they are able to fit you in, knowing a bit about you from the start would be really helpful and a huge gain of time.

Option 2

I just completed a wonderful week of French immersion with Eliane and her family near Carcassonne. My goals for the week were twofold: first, to immerse myself in French, and second, to get an assessment of the areas I most needed to improve. Both goals were fully accomplished. (…)

Eliane is very flexible in her teaching style and can adapt the instruction and conversation to suit your needs. When I explained my goals, she said that she usually spends the first day in general conversation, which helps her assess which areas to focus on during the rest of the week. That was exactly what I was looking for: someone who could observe my French in context and help me identify where I should concentrate my efforts. I also asked her to assign homework, which she said she normally does unless the student prefers not to have any.

French practice

The week was highly immersive. Each morning, over breakfast, I had three hours of French conversation, grammar discussion, and correction of the previous day’s homework. After that, there was a short break while Eliane prepared lunch, followed by more French conversation over the meal. Eliane’s husband, Benjamin, often joined us for breakfast and lunch, giving me another person to speak French with.

Outings

We chose Option 2, which included sightseeing activities with Benjamin every afternoon. This was a wonderful way to experience the local culture, including visits to places such as the medieval city of Carcassonne and the Canal du Midi. Even the car rides became valuable opportunities to speak French with Benjamin. We discussed everything from French viticulture and the economy to road signs and family life. Of course, there was even more French once we arrived at the sites and continued our conversations.

After returning from our afternoon excursions, we had time to relax before Eliane brought us dinner, which we ate in our three-bedroom apartment on the ground floor. After dinner, I had time to complete my homework for the next day.

This schedule was ideal for me. I had about six to seven hours a day of French immersion: more formal instruction in the morning, followed by another three to four hours of conversation over lunch and during the afternoon excursions with Benjamin. And, of course, there was the homework as well.

My wife, Emma, was not studying French, but she thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Eliane, Benjamin, and their young daughters, Elena and Lili, are warm and welcoming. During meals, I generally spoke French, but Emma felt free to ask questions in English, and Eliane and Benjamin would speak with her in English as needed. Sometimes I translated for her as well. It all felt very natural: I was able to use my French, while Emma felt completely at home.

We both had a great time with Eliane, Benjamin, and their family. I learned a great deal of French and gained valuable insight into what I need to work on next.

Option 2

What a perfect vacation I’ve had spending two weeks chez Eliane and Benjamin. I let them take complete charge since they obviously know all the best places et nous les avons presque toutes visitées. In April there are few tourists about and our guided tours were more or less privés. We spoke only French —my English is now sounding a bit stilted to my ear — and encountered no Americans. So it was a real immersion.

French practice

My French friends in the US all insist I speak French sans fautes et sans accent. They are clearly liars, of course. Eliane diagnosed my errors right away, and we went to work on them. Fingers crossed that I can keep at least some of what she taught me in my aging cranium.

Since I was being waited on hand and foot, I had time to read three books by French authors, something I really ought to make time for when I am back home.

This was by far the easiest, most relaxing, yet linguistically challenging vacation I’ve ever taken. Come hang out with Eliane if you have the chance!
